Veronica Roth's first ”adult” novel hits screens

Image Picturestart has acquired the film rights to Veronica Roth's forthcoming novel The Chosen One. The writer is best known for her series of post-apocalyptic bestsellers, Divergent, already turned into a successful franchise by Hollywood filmmakers. The Chosen One touches on the same themes, but is reportedly aimed at older audiences and is positioned as the author's first “adult” novel.

The deal will mark the reunion of the team behind the adaptation of Divergent. In addition to Picturestart head Eric Feige, producer Puia Shahbazyan, Veronica herself and Temple Hill, the company responsible for the Twilight and Maze Runner franchises, will work on the ambitious project.

The Chosen One is set in Chicago and centers on a group of friends who saved the world as teenagers. Now they are forced to grapple with PTSD, broken relationships and frenzied media attention to their personas. But worst of all, the prospect of a new mission loomed ahead. The five adults already face a much greater danger and reconsider their thoughts about what it means to be a true hero. The novel will hit bookstore shelves on April 6.
