Steve Coogan will find the remains of Richard III

Image Steve Coogan will shed light on one of the most interesting pages of British history: the English actor and screenwriter announced a film about the search for the remains of Richard III.

Richard III died in 1485 during the Battle of Bosworth. The king was originally buried at Greyfriars Monastery. In Britain, there was a legend that during the time of Henry VIII, the monastery was plundered, and the remains of the monarch were thrown into the river Sor. However, some authors suspected that the marauders never made it to the king's grave. In 2012, the British authorities decided to test this theory and began excavating a car park built on the grounds of a former monastery. Soon, archaeologists stumbled upon the skeleton of a man with signs of severe scoliosis. Since some chronicles called Richard III a hunchback, scientists sent the find for a DNA test.

The remains of the monarch were reburied in 2015. Coogan spoke about the picture in an interview with the BBC. Steve will take on dual roles - he will write the script in collaboration with Jeff Pope, and will also play the husband of the writer Philip Langley, who convinced the authorities to carry out the excavation.

Coogan and Pope have already worked on biographical projects: in 2014, they received an Oscar nomination for the script "Philomena."
