For almost ten years, Hollywood producers have been poring over the Scarface remake. The long-suffering project changed directors, screenwriters, was left without the actor Diego Luna, who once wanted to play the main role in it. It seems that Universal has finally managed to find a formula for success: the major offered Luca Guadagnino to lead the shooting of the film.|
Guadagnino is an interesting and unconventional choice for a project like Scarface. Following the successful Big Splash, the filmmaker directed the Academy Award-nominated drama Call Me by Your Name. It was followed by a remake of Suspiria, which turned out to be quite successful, albeit underestimated.
"Scarface", we recall, tells the story of the Cuban emigrant Tony Montana, who managed to break through from the bottom to the top of the criminal world. The plot of the remake is kept secret, but the Coen brothers were the last to work on the script. However, Universal granted Guadagnino the right to revise the text at its discretion.
The Scarfaces remake is a priority for the studio, and it should be considered Guadagnino's next work. But the new version of Lord of the Flies seems to have to wait - it just recently acquired a screenwriter.
