New Film Adaptations Awaiting Discworld

Image Narrativa, founded by writer Terry Pratchett, plans to expand the Discworld universe with a promising deal with production corporations Endeavor Content and Motive Pictures. The parties to the agreement have assured that their cooperation will be exclusive and aimed at creating a "truly authentic" TV adaptation of the novels, and the film adaptations will fully correspond to the original vision of Pratchett. By the way, the new deal was signed just on the author's birthday.

With 41 stories and 100 million copies worldwide, the books take place on a planet known as Discworld, which balances on the backs of four elephants, which in turn lean on the shell of a giant tortoise. The series began in 1983 with The Color of Magic and ended in 2015 with The Shepherd's Crown, after which Terry Pratchett passed away. The narrative is often parodied or inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, Howard Phillips Lovecraft, Charles Dickens, William Shakespeare, as well as stories from mythology, folklore and fairy tales, periodically leaving homages to sources in the form of satirical parallels in cultural, political and scientific issues of the fictional universe.

Narrativa was founded in 2012 and owns the exclusive copyright for Pratchett's works and controls their use. Over the past two years, the organization has contributed to the series Good Omens, based on the bestselling book of the same name by Pratchett and his colleague Neil Gaiman. In the fall, BBC America began preparing for the Watch series, also based on the Discworld series.
