Image According to the Hollywood Reporter , The Reader and The Watch director, Stephen Daldry , will direct the fantasy project The Drifter ( The Wonderling ) *, the rights to which were acquired by the studio Fox 2000 in the conditions of great competition. The plot of the picture will be based on the manuscript of the American writer Mira Bartok .

The Wonderling is a teenage fantasyset in an alternate world akin to Victorian England. This society is ruled by the Tall Hats , and the half-human, half-animal hybrid beings serve them, working in the underground factories of the City Under the City. The protagonist of The Wonderling is a shy, one-eared and fox-like creature named Number Thirteen . Together with a bird friend named Trinket ( Trinket ) * he manages to escape from the orphanage and go on a wonderful journey.

The film studios fought so hard for the story that the film rights, which they promise to stretch to the scale of a trilogy, were sold even before the publishers acquired the rights to the book.
