Tom Hanks was invited to become a national hero

Image As reported by The Hollywood Reporter , Tom Hanks is in talks to take on the role of Captain Chesley Sullenberger in the upcoming Clint Eastwood film. The biopic will be based on the life story of Sally (as the American press nicknamed the hero), described in his memoirs Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters .

The biographical drama will be written by Todd Komarniki (The Perfect Stranger) and produced by Eastwood , Tim Moore, Ellen Stewart and Frank Marshall.

The Sullenberger story hit the news in January 2009. After taking off from LaGuardia Airport, New York, the plane, piloted by Chesley , collided with a flock of Canadian geese, causing both engines to break down and then stop. The experienced pilot Sullenberger immediately got his bearings in the situation and, realizing that the plane would not be able to return to the airport, decided to board the Hudson River. The landing was successful and all 155 passengers survived.
