Image Last summer, BBC experts asked internationally renowned critics to help them identify the top 100 American films in history. The Directors Guild of America kept up with the British media corporation, deciding to compile its own rating of the greatest films in the year of its 80th anniversary.

In the DGA poll, 2,189 directors took part, who were to determine the 80 best films in terms of the work of directors and their crews. Steven Spielberg , Martin Scorsese and Stanley Kubrick are the leaders in terms of the number of mentions: each of them is represented by five films on the list.
