Alan Rickman: ”I almost turned down the role of Hans Gruber”
In an interview with The Guardian Alan Rickman , he admitted that he did not want to start his career in big cinema with a role in “ Die Hard ”.“I was offered a role in this film just two days after I arrived in Los Angeles, said Rickman . -I didn't know anything about the city itself or about the movie business. I had never done a big movie before, but I could get by very cheaply in the studio. However, I was not at all eager to start my film career with the action genre. After reading the script for `` Die Hard '', I realized that this film will be significantly different from other action films. For example, absolutely all black heroes turned out to be tough and smart guys. It was quite a revolutionary project at the time.  Thanks to Rickman Hans Gruber has become one of the most famous villains in the history of cinema, but during the filming the actor had to defend his vision of the antagonist image. “Initially, Hans was supposed to wear a terrorist uniform, but it seemed to me an interesting idea to appear on the screen in a strict suit, - noted Alan . -This move gave my hero the opportunity to pretend to be a hostage in one of the scenes. I gave a note with my ideas to producer Joel Silver, who kicked me out of his office saying, “You’ll wear what you’re told.” However, I then received a new version of the script in which they changed the Gruber costume. It turns out that it is not so bad to have a rich theatrical experience behind him”.
