The last man on Earth will remain on FX

Image The Hollywood Reporter has reported that FX is starting work on a television adaptation of the popular comic strip Y: The Last Man .

The first issue of a series of graphic novels appeared in print back in 2002. The comic was written by Brian K. Vaughn and is co-running the new project with Nina Jacobson and Bradford Simpson. At the moment, the search is underway for a screenwriter who will help Vaughn adapt the original source, as well as the director.

At the center of the graphic novels is Yorick Brown - the last person with the Y chromosome to survive a mysterious epidemic on Earth. Being almost the only man on the planet, the main character in the company of his faithful assistant - Capuchin Ampersand - is trying to find out what kind of virus destroyed the male half of humanity.

The news that Y: The Last Man is going to TV has been long awaited by fans of the comic, since the rights to the film adaptation were bought by New Line back in 2007. Selected director DJ Caruso planned to make a franchise of three films based on the series, but the studio bosses did not like this idea. Last fall, the rights were finally returned to Vaughn .

Fans of the original include such filmmakers as Joss Whedon ("The Avengers") and Louis Leterrier ("The Incredible Hulk"), while Zachary Levy talked about playing Yorick .
