Official: Elba and McConaughey headed to the Dark Tower
Good news for fans of the cult book series "The Dark Tower " tweeted Stephen King : the long-awaited film adaptation of the landmark literary work is finally ready to go to work. In November last year, we reported that Matthew McConaughey claims to be the main antagonist of the tape, and a month later it became known that the protagonist could be played by Idris Elba.The Horror Master confirmed the information about the casting of the actors, and also quoted the opening phrase from the first book of the cycle: "The Man in Black went into the desert, and the shooter followed." According to King , the story begins with this scene, but the film itself will not be a screen version of the novel " The Shooter ". “The tape will start from the middle of the story, not from the beginning,” noted Stephen in an interview with Entertainment Weekly . -Much of the action will take place in the modern world today. The adaptation of “ The Dark Tower ” had to wait for many years, because I started working on this story as a student. I am glad that the film has finally moved to the preproduction stage”.  Elba will embody in the film the image of the shooter Roland Descan , who went in search of the mysterious Dark Tower . “I've been following the career of Idris for a long time, - said the director Nikolai Arsel. -During our first meeting, I presented him with my vision of the story of the adventures of Roland and his ka-theta. We discussed who this hero is. As it turned out, our views on Arrow completely coincide”.  “ Elba is one of the best actors of our time, added King . -I originally painted Roland with the face of Clint Eastwood, but over the years the image of this character in my head has changed. He was no longer Eastwood , but simply Roland , something like the Man without a Name from Sergio Leone's films. He can be white or dark-skinned. It doesn't matter to me. Moreover, the choice of Idris opens up interesting possibilities in terms of the backstory of this hero”. McConaughey will appear on the screen as the mysterious Man in Black . “ Matthew is an excellent actor who can do anything, said Arcel . -That's what I've always thought of Walter Padick . This is a person who is capable of anything. As a big fan of Stephen King , I have met The Man in Black on the pages of his various works. It was very interesting for me to write this character in the script”.  Arcel joined the project last summer. Initially, Ron Howard applied for the director's chair, who wanted to make three films, in between the releases of which the story of Roland and his friends would continue in the television series. Apparently, these plans are in the past. According to insiders, Sony studio management is not going to work on a series of films at once, but wants to first assess the reaction of viewers to the first part. It is possible that the upcoming blockbuster will be a relatively complete story with a loophole for sequels.
