Steve Buscemi: ”I'm not used to regret anything”

Image As part of his support for the fundraising campaign for the production of the documentary Check It Steve Buscemi , he answered questions from fans about his career, collaborating with Quentin Tarantino and the Coen brothers, past as a firefighter and readiness to star in the sequel to "Air Prison".

What memories do you have of The Big Lebowski?

On the set of the films of the Coen brothers , the actors always feel as comfortable as possible. I really liked the long takes in the scenes with John Goodman and Jeff Bridges. I had few words, so I could just enjoy the company of these wonderful actors and watch the arguments between their characters.

Before I had time to check into the hotel, I heard a loud voice of a guest from another room, talking on the phone. I thought with horror that I got one of those terrible noisy neighbors. I even wanted to change the room, but at that moment I realized that the voice belongs to John Goodman . It turned out that he was just making an order to his room. When the food cart was brought to him, I also looked into his room. At first he was surprised, and then he said: "Let's go to a restaurant." We became great friends with him. Jeff Bridges also turned out to be an incredibly pleasant person to talk to. Jeff has starred in a whole gallery of great films, each of which he has a lot to tell.

Curiously, the " The Big Lebowski " has only acquired cult status over the years. At one time, this film puzzled many: critics expected that after the success of Fargo, Ethan and Joel would be engaged in more commercial projects. The picture became really famous only a few years after the premiere. They even started to stop me on the street and ask about the role of Donnie ... It's nice to realize the very fact that you starred in such a project, but it warms the soul even more when such films are recognized as real classics.

Who would have won Donnie vs. Jesus?

John Turturro and I have played bowling a few times. I must admit that he did better than me. He's somewhat more athletic.

What movie would you love to watch to the end if you accidentally bump into it on TV?

I'd give up all my business to see Nicefellas again. Just recently, my brother and I were switching channels and quite by accident got to the "Casino", and it all ended with the fact that we watched it to the end. Looks like I'm ready to watch all of Martin Scorsese's films over and over again.

How did you remember working with Quentin Tarantino on Reservoir Dogs?

He was thrilled to be able to make this film. His rehearsals with the actors were just as interesting as the filming itself. He allowed us to improvise about the details of the robbery of a jewelry store. Quentin was full of positive energy. He helped all of us recharge with this positive and feel as if we were working on our first film in our life.

Do you have any funny story about Nicolas Cage?

Nicholas is often referred to as the weird guy, but I never noticed any weird behavior on him. He is what he is. I would love to work with him again.

Are you ready to star in the sequel to "Jail in Air"?

I would be interested to know what happened to Garland Green . I think any of his new flights on the plane would automatically turn into " Air Prison 2 " ... In their time, Jerry Bruckheimer and Simon West managed to assemble an excellent cast. My colleagues and I had a great time filming this movie in the desert. I would be glad to take part in the creation of the sequel.

Did you manage to watch the TV series "Fargo"?

I haven't had a chance to rate it yet, but I've heard extremely good reviews about it. There are some great TV shows that I never got to watch. Hopefully, I will be able to fill in these gaps soon. From the series of recent years, I liked "Breaking Bad" ( Breaking Bad ).

Which of your films do you think is the funniest?

I can name the movie that was most fun on set - "The Impostors" by Stanley Tucci. We had a very warm company. We filmed on a ship and I played the suicidal lounge singer Happy Franks .

If you could travel in time, what era would you go to?

I would like to be in the 40s of the last century. I always liked those times. It would be cool to be on the set of Buster Keaton's films.

Immediately after the September 11 attacks, you returned to your home fire station. Have you been recognized as a famous actor?

Some recognized me, but don't make a lot of noise about it. In the early 80s, I worked in a fire department, which lost five people in a terrorist attack. I just wanted to support the victims, but being on the front line with my old comrades helped me too. At that time, all residents of the country were in shock, not knowing how to come to the rescue of people. I am grateful that I was given the opportunity to help not only in word, but also in deed.

Which superhero do you like best - Batman or Superman?

I choose Superman . I loved the Batman TV series, but the Clark Kent show is more memorable for me. For my fifth birthday, I was even given a Superman suit. I remember that a warning was printed on the cloak: "Do not try to fly in this suit." And just below was a note: "Only a real Superman can fly." I sincerely believed he was real.

How did you get interested in documentary projects?

A couple of years ago Stanley Tucci and I decided to start our own studio. We found a partner in the person of a great producer Ren Arthur, who has successfully collaborated with Robert Altman. The three of us have created a company so that Stanley and I have the opportunity to implement our ideas. Then we decided to start working on TV series and documentaries. We try to support talented filmmakers and produce their films.

Do you regret any missed roles?

I'm not used to regretting anything. If I refused to participate in any projects, there was always a good reason for this.
