Spielberg: ”Superhero Movies Fight the Same Fate as Westerns”
A couple of years ago, Steven Spielberg threatened Hollywood with inevitable collapse due to inflated budgets for standard blockbusters. Now, as it became known to journalists Collider , the legendary director has some thoughts about the most popular genre today - superhero cinema.According to Spielberg , the prospects for such films are far from bright, and the demand for such films may someday come to naught: “We have already witnessed the death of the western genre. The time will come when the same will happen with superhero franchises. True, this does not mean that the fashion for them will not return. Now blockbusters about people with supernormal abilities are at the peak of popularity, but in pop culture everything is cyclical, and each cycle has a limited lifetime. The day will come when some stories will be supplanted by others, which are just maturing in the head of some young filmmaker. ”  It is clear that not everyone will take such a prophecy calmly: some will probably decide that Spielberg is throwing mud at their favorite films. But, if you think about it, you can find a grain of reason in what he says. The third "Avengers" should become larger and more expensive than "Age of Ultron", which, in turn, eclipsed the first part both in terms of budget and scope. But won't the viewer get tired of watching movies of the same genre so often? In addition, the director does not claim that the superhero will be completely forgotten in the very near future. The western genre stayed on trend for several decades. It includes tapes that can be safely called some of the best in the history of cinematography. It's more about the fact that everything ends someday.  In 2016, the release of as many as seven superhero blockbusters is expected - two from Marvel Studios (Avengers Rift and Doctor Strange), two from Warner Bros. (Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad) and three from Fox (Deadpool, X-Men: Apocalypse and Gambit). We will be able to contemplate an unprecedented boom: viewers will have the opportunity to watch films based on comics for almost a whole year. But is there enough variety in these pictures to keep the attention of their target audience? So, " Deadpool " is an action movie about an anti-hero-outrageous with a rating of R , " X-Men " is a colorful disaster film, the action of which will unfold in the 80s, and Doctor Strange is an outlandish psychedelic.<  After all, as the experience of Universal Pictures shows, studios can thrive thanks to other genres, and superheroes may not be required at all.
