Neil Gaiman to visit Gormenghast Castle

Image First, Neil Gaiman tried his hand at producing "American Gods", based on his own work, and then the writer took over the duties of showrunner for the film adaptation of "Good Omens". And although Gaiman claimed in his interviews that he intends to focus on literary activity, the world of television does not let him go. As the portal The Tracking Board managed to find out, together with Akiva Goldsman (Beyond the Boundary) Gaiman is adapting the Gormengast trilogy for small screens.

The fantasy cycle, written by Mervyn Peak, is considered a classic of literature. In the original, we are talking about the inhabitants of the huge and gloomy castle Gormenghast - the heir of the ancient Groan family Titus, his father's loyal valet Flay, the insidious kitchen servant Steerpike and other no less interesting personalities. The source writes that the upcoming series will be full of political intrigue, and in addition to Titus and Steerpike, the twins Cora and Clarissa will definitely appear in it - the mentally deprived younger sisters of Duke Groan, Titus's father.

“There is nothing in literature that resembles the outstanding novels of Mervyn Peak in the Gormenghast series. They were created by a maestro who was also an artist. They take us to an ancient castle, huge as a city, and the heroes and villains in the books are such bright personalities that it is impossible to forget them. It's not for nothing that in the 60s, fantasy fans appreciated two trilogies - `` The Lord of the Rings '' and " Gormengast ", said Neil Gaiman.

The works of Mervyn Peak have already been adapted for TV: in 2000, the BBC released the miniseries Dark Kingdom, in which Jonathan Reese Myers played Steerpike and Christopher Lee appeared as Flay. At that time, the film adaptation was one of the most ambitious projects of the British channel: work on it was carried out for five years, and the show team used about 120 sites for filming. Positive reviews from critics were not long in coming. Reviewers called the drama unforgettable, praising the design, soundtrack and great acting.
