Spielberg is ready to film King's Talisman
Despite a long-standing friendship and common interests, the creative paths of director Steven Spielberg and writer Stephen King all the time diverge. As it became known to the publication Entertainment Weekly, the icons of modern pop culture are finally ready to rectify the situation and work together on the adaptation of the novel "Talisman".At one time, Spielberg invited King to write the script for the horror "Poltergeist". As it took place in the pre-Internet era, the director's letter got stuck along the way. King received word from the director while traveling to England on a transatlantic ship. By the time he was able to reply to Spielberg's letter, he had already found other writers for Poltergeist.  Over the past three decades, King and Spielberg have actively discussed many joint projects, but managed to implement only one of them. In 2013, they acted as executive producers of the TV series Under the Dome. Now the Stevens intend to join forces to work on the adaptation of the novel "Talisman", which King co-authored with Peter Straub. Spielberg acquired the rights to adapt the book back in 1982, when the writers were just preparing it for print. The main character of the story is a 12-year-old boy Jack Sawyer, who, in order to save his dying mother, had to go to a parallel universe in search of a mysterious artifact. The 1984 novel was warmly received by critics and received nominations for the World Fantasy Award and the prestigious Locus magazine award.  In the early 2000s, Spielberg attempted to bring the characters in Talisman to small screens. The script for the six-part miniseries was directed by Ehren Kruger, but at the last moment the management of the TNT channel unexpectedly sent the project to the shelf. Spielberg did not despair and decided to try his luck with "Talisman" again. This time we are talking about a film adaptation of a fantasy novel. In October last year it became known that Josh Boone (The Fault in the Stars) had started working on the script for the film.I think the Mascot will be our closest and most fruitful relationship with King, ”said Spielberg. -For many years, I dreamed that this book would receive a decent adaptation. Hopefully we'll be able to start making the film in the next couple of years. ”  Insiders are still at a loss to say whether Spielberg will manage to act as the director of "Talisman", or whether he will have to limit himself to only producing functions. Stephen is currently choosing his next directorial project. It can be either the historical drama The Abduction of Edgardo Mortara, or a remake of West Side Story.
