Michelle Williams will board the Challenger

Image Golden Globe winner Michelle Williams will star in the drama The Challenger, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The actress got the role of Christa McAuliffe, who died in the 1986 space shuttle disaster. The script was written by Jason Rothwell and directed by Danish director Martin Zandvliet (My Land).

On the morning of January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger, shortly after taking off from Cape Canaveral, collapsed in a fuel tank explosion. All seven crew members died, including Christa McAuliffe, a New Hampshire schoolteacher who had been selected to participate in NASA's Teacher in Space project. After the tragedy, McAuliffe was posthumously awarded the U.S. Congress Medal of Honor.

Michelle Williams is currently filming the drama After the Wedding with Oscar winner Julianne Moore, and from tomorrow the actress can be seen on the big screen in the thriller Venom.
