Image Legendary Entertainment has decided to answer the Transformers series. As it became known to The Hollywood Reporter, the American studio has acquired the rights to create a feature film based on the highly popular anime franchise Gundam.

The deal between Legendary and Japanese animation studio Sunrise came from the Anime Expo in Los Angeles these days. The first project of the Gundam universe was released in 1979. Since then, the giant robot saga has evolved into a massive media franchise that includes cartoons, TV series, films, comics and video games. Today, Gundam models account for 90% of the total share of plastic toys in Japan, and the Sunrise studio has an estimated annual revenue of hundreds of millions of dollars.

The action of most of the projects of the universe takes place in the so-called Ecumenical Age, when, due to the rapid overpopulation of our planet, mankind had to conquer distant space.
