Hilarious Battle

Image It looks like Warner Bros. it is time to urgently introduce a ban on communication of its employees with the press. First, the producers of the DC MCU, who began to dig graves for the upcoming blockbusters "Wonder Woman: 1984" and "Suicide Squad 2", "distinguished themselves". Now their bad example is screenwriter Greg Russo, who managed to discourage many viewers from watching the reboot of the Mortal Kombat franchise in just one interview.

During a conversation with the journalists of the Discussing Film edition, Russo was asked if the new film adaptation of the cult video game series Mortal Kombat would receive an "adult" rating. “Is it possible to create a super-serious and dark film based on this franchise?, the writer wondered. -Sure, but personally I have always found Mortal Kombat to be a pretty fun game. In my opinion, her adaptation simply must have a light tone. There is violence and fighting in my script, but it also has a lot of funny scenes. A new version of Mortal Kombat can be compared to the films of the Marvel universe, which are always full of jokes. It is clear that in this case our picture will be oriented towards a slightly more adult audience”.

Many viewers and gamers will probably agree that Mortal Kombat is not a cinematic universe in which an excessive comedy bias is appropriate. No wonder Mortal Kombat is considered one of the bloodiest franchises in the history of the entertainment industry. The popularity of the game led the US Congress to call a special meeting in 1993 to discuss the rise in violence in video games. Congressional hearings led to the formation of the ESRB, which created a modern age rating system for games.

In the first film adaptation of the fighting game, there were a couple of good jokes, but in the end, the film did not slip into a frank comedy. In 2010, director Kevin Tancharoen created the dark and realistic short Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, the success of which allowed him to launch the web series Mortal Kombat: The Legacy.

Initially, it was assumed that it was Tancharoen who would lead work on the full-length restart of the franchise, but in October 2013 he unexpectedly left the project. Greg Russo's interview makes it clear that Kevin could refuse further cooperation with the WB, since the studio bosses decided to change the direction of the film's development and add comedy moments to the script.
