Death is no joke

Image Not only did the English-language adaptation of the cult manga "Death Note" not find success with film critics and fans of the original, but now it also found itself at the center of a scandal. The fact that Adam Wingard's film did not become a super hit of the online service Netflix is eloquently evidenced by the fact that only a year and a half after its release, it was found to contain footage of a real train wreck.

The accident in a head-on collision of two trains in the Belgian Halle occurred in February 2010 and killed 18 passengers. Another 171 people received injuries of varying severity. It is difficult to say which of the creators of the picture thought it appropriate to use real footage from the scene of the tragedy, but one thing is clear: the Death Note team did not think at all about the feelings of the victims and their relatives, who were shocked to see the shots of the horrific crash in the feature film.

Representatives of the National Railways Society of Belgium admitted to BBC reporters that the case could end in a lawsuit against Netflix. At best, the streaming giant will get off with a demand to remove the controversial scene from the movie. At worst, he will have to enter into legal battle with the families and friends of the victims of the tragedy.

One way or another, this case should be a good lesson for directors and producers, who must understand that the use of footage of real accidents, terrorist attacks or natural disasters in feature films is completely tasteless and bad form.
