While the clock strikes twelve

Image Despite the fact that the recent remake of "The Magnificent Seven" received controversial press reviews and failed to recoup its solid $ 90 million budget, Hollywood intends to reshoot another iconic western. According to Deadline, the film company Classical Entertainment is preparing a new version of the film "Exactly at Noon".

The original film by Fred Zinnemann was released in 1952. The action of the western unfolds in real time, and its main character was Sheriff Will Kane. On his last day in service, the guardian of the law learns that at noon the criminal Frank Miller, whom he once hid behind bars, will return to the city. Kane is faced with a difficult choice - to leave the city before the arrival of Miller's gang, or to bravely look death in the eyes and face an enemy thirsty for revenge ...

The painting easily recouped its $ 750,000 budget and won four Oscars. One of the golden statues went to the legendary Gary Cooper, who embodied the image of Sheriff Kane. In 1989, Exactly Noon became one of the first films to earn the right to enter the National Motion Picture Registry of the US Library of Congress.

Previous attempts to cash in on the legacy of the original have turned into high-profile failures. First, CBS created a television sequel to the western. Hot Afternoon 2: The Return of Will Kane aired in November 1980 and frankly disappointed viewers and critics. Twenty years later, Exactly Noon received its first remake. To the dismay of the executives of the cable channel TBS, their TV movie did not appeal to loyal fans of the original or a new generation of viewers.

After the death of producer Stanley Kramer, the rights to "High Noon" passed to his widow Karen, who decided to return the heroes of the 1952 tape to the big screens. Two years ago, an attempt to shoot a Hollywood remake of the western was undertaken by the studio Relativity Media, but in the end the project was frozen due to funding problems.

Now the deal with Karen Sharp has been struck by Classical Entertainment. David Hunt, who has earned many accolades for his work on the sports drama Bolshoi, will be the screenwriter and director of the new version of Exactly Noon.
