Neil Gaiman brings Storyteller back to screens

Image The storyteller, created by Jim Henson back in the 80s, is ready to tell the audience a new story. Fremantle and The Jim Henson have announced that, together with science fiction writer Neil Gaiman, they are ready to return to the small screens "The Storyteller" - an anthology series where classic legends come to life through puppets.

The original show premiered in 1987. It adapted fables of the peoples of Europe for the television format, and John Hurt played the elven storyteller who told these stories. According to a press release, the new version will create its own mystical world, combining fairy tales and myths. Given the fact that Gaiman has repeatedly drew inspiration for creativity in various cultures, the matter will not be limited to European folklore.

“What attracts me to the show is the unknown… Who was the title character? Why did he tell these stories? Who is he, a goblin or another creature? .. We will go to the Northern Kingdom, where fairy tales are forbidden, and for them a person can be sent to prison or executed ... Jim Henson was always ahead of his time. He found a way to retell folk epics for the TV generation. The original Storyteller Is a superbly written and directed set of stories. I am both frightened and at the same time inspired by the challenge of rewriting what Jim Henson did for the modern golden age of television, ”said Gaiman.

So far, no specific dates have been set for the new series, but the target audience for the project team is subscribers of streaming services. At the same time, Gaiman will not remain without work on TV: the second season of "American Gods" will soon be released, and "Good Omens" will follow.
