We recently reported that Netflix is serious about expanding the share of anime content in its library. The service adds both cult and beloved stories, such as "Evangelion", and develops original series. An anime based on "Ghost in the Shell" has joined the product line of its own production. The premiere of the project, called Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 ("Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045"), will take place in 2020. This was announced on Twitter by a subsidiary studio of the online service NX, specializing in sci-fi content.|
Kenji Kamiyama, writer of Ghost in the Shell: Lonely Syndrome, and Shinji Aramaki, director of Apple Seed, will share the director's chair for the show. Production IG will join forces with Sola Digital Arts, which is developing a remake of Ultraman for Netflix.
The new anime will continue the Ghost in the Shell franchise following last year's live-action remake of the original animated film, which was criticized for portraying a white actress, Scarlett Johansson, as a Japanese woman, Motoko Kusanagi.
