Matt Damon will be the oil king
Matt Damon and John Krasinski have already met on the set of the Promised Land drama. Moreover, the two of them also wrote the script for the film by Gus Van Sant, and then produced Manchester by the Sea. Damon and Krasinski are now ready to take on a new project. According to the Deadline website, they are going to work on a tape called The King of Oil, which will tell about the life of billionaire Mark Rich.The biopic will be based on the biopic The King of Oil: The Secret Lives of Marc Rich, the film rights of which were acquired by Universal Studios on behalf of Krasinski's Sunday Night Productions. Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse (Willpower) will adapt the original. Unlike “Promised Land,” the functions of Krasinski and Damon will be distributed differently this time: Matt plans to play the main role in the tape, and John is listed as a producer. Although insiders do not deny that in the future he may want to lead the filming himself, especially since thanks to “Quiet Place” he already has experience of fruitful cooperation with Universal. After the disastrous Suburbicon and In Short, Matt Damon needs a challenging role, and Mark Rich is perfect for that. Born Marcell David Reich, he managed to become one of the richest and most influential oil traders in the 1960s and 1970s. Luck left him in 1983, when the businessman was charged with 65 crimes, including tax evasion. Over the years of his activity, Rich illegally collaborated with Cuba, Israel and the American government, but he still managed to avoid punishment: before the sentencing, Mark went to Switzerland. Moreover, when leaving the White House, Bill Clinton also pardoned Rich.  Damon will soon be heading to the set of Ford v Ferrari, and Krasinski will continue to work on the sequel to A Quiet Place, although he has not yet officially agreed to take the director's chair for the horror film.
