Americans are reanimating the ”Dolls” show

Image Fox made an unexpected but pleasant gift for fans of sharp political satire. Variety has learned that one of America's leading on-air television networks has acquired the rights to an American remake of the French puppet show Les Guignols.

The first issue of the program aired on August 29, 1988. Initially, the show did not cause much enthusiasm among the audience. Shortly after the outbreak of the Gulf War, the creators of Les Guignols changed the broadcast format so that dolls of famous politicians and media figures began to discuss the most current news of the world. The ratings of the program immediately went up. As a result, the program stayed on French TV screens for thirty years less than two months: its last episode aired last week.

In 1994, a deal with the creators of the show was made by the USA producer Vasily Grigoriev, who created the cult show “Dolls” based on Les Guignols.

Now funny puppets will go to conquer North American television screens. The Los Angeles studio Propagate and the French media giant Vivendi will participate in the creation of the "Dolls" remake. The comedy series' writing team will be chaired by thirteen Emmy-winning David Javerbaum, who has previously worked on late night shows for popular TV personalities such as David Letterman, John Stewart, Stephen Colbert and James Corden.
