”Black Widow” has found a director
As reported by Collider, "Black Widow" is one step closer to preproduction - the superhero tape now has a director. After negotiations with more than 70 candidates, Marvel Studios chose Kate Shortland, who has already signed her contract.Shortland is an Australian director best known for Lore and Berlin Syndrome, but Black Widow is her biggest project so far. However, do not be surprised: taking unknown directors on solo films for your characters is very Marvelian. Shane Black only directed one film, Kiss Through, before he took on the third part of Iron Man, and for Alan Taylor, the sequel Thor was his directorial debut. Finding a woman to direct was a priority for Marvel, although The Hollywood Reporter reports that at some point they started looking at men as well. In the last month, the list of candidates has narrowed to three finalists - Amma Asante (Belle), Margaret Betts (Novice) and Shortland. The star of "Inglourious Basterds" Melanie Laurent and the director of the drama "Boys Don't Cry" Kimberly Pierce have almost reached the final. It was Johansson who insisted that Marvel choose Shortland: the actress liked Kate's work on the tape "Laura".  Black Widow has long been in development as fans have been clamoring for a solo movie ever since the character first appeared in the sequel to Iron Man. Jacqueline Schaeffer wrote the preliminary script. According to the source, the story of the solo album about Natasha Romanoff will unfold before the events of The Avengers. It's unclear when filming will begin, however, given Johansson's tight schedule and Marvel's silence over all the movies since Avengers 4. One can only hope that "Widow" is their priority. As a reminder, Marvel will release Captain Marvel, featuring a superhero for the first time, in March 2019, followed by Avengers 4 in May and a sequel to Spider-Man in July.
