Agent Cooper

Image Spy Matt Helm, created by writer Donald Hamilton, has been absent from screens for nearly 40 years, but now Paramount is poised to bring him back into service. As the portal Deadline found out, the major hired Thomas Shepherd to work on the script for the project about Helm, and the main role in it was given to Bradley Cooper.

In total, Hamilton penned 27 novels about the American intelligence agent Matt Helm. The main character worked for the United States during World War II, but after the end of the war he decided to leave the profession and began to live a quiet life until duty called him again. Helm's duties include finding and killing enemy agents from other countries.

Columbia Pictures acquired the film rights to Hamilton's novels in the mid-60s. Of the planned five paintings, only four made it to the screens, and even those were far from the original and its atmosphere. They lacked action, and therefore the only opportunity to compete with James Bond, according to the producers, was to create parodies of spy films. This is how the films "Secret Aliens", "Assassins' Back Street", "Ambush" and "Team of Destroyers" with Dean Martin in the title role were born. In 1975, ABC tried to adapt Hamilton's works for television, but the series "Matt Helm" was not popular with viewers and was canceled after only one season.

The new film is produced by George Clooney, Grant Heslov (Suburbicon), Alex Kurtzman (The Mummy) and Roberto Orsi (Power Rangers).
