Cannes favors shoplifters

Image The 71st International Cannes Film Festival has completed its work in France. This year, a jury headed by actress Cate Blanchett had to choose the winner from the list of the main program participants, which included 21 films.

Even after the announcement of the applicants for the Golden Palm, analysts and journalists noted the fact that among the contestants there were both stellar directors and directors unknown to the general public. The same can be said about the winners of the festival. So, acting awards this year went to little-known Marcello Fonte and Samal Eslyamova. At the same time, among the winners you can see the names of Spike Lee, who first came to the Cote d'Azur back in 1986, and Pavel Pavlikovsky.

This year the jury decided to institute a special prize - the so-called Special Palme d'Or, which was awarded to the legend of world cinema Jean-Luc Godard for the picture "Image and Speech". The main award of the festival was taken by Japanese director Hirokazu Koreeda, who brought the family drama Shoplifters to Cannes.

Winners of the 71st Cannes Film Festival in 2018 are:

Golden Camera for Best Debut: Lucas Dont (Girl)
