Sylvester Stallone to talk about gangs in New York

Image The magical world of television continues to lure big-name actors and directors into its networks. History channel boasted an excellent catch today. Cable executives have announced that three-time Academy Award-nominated Sylvester Stallone will be producing and directing their new crime drama, The Tenderloin.

The action of the series will unfold in the eponymous district of New York. By the end of the 19th century, so many drinking establishments, brothels and gambling houses had opened in Tenderloin that the inhabitants of the Big Apple began to call it nothing but the Circus of Satan and Modern Gomorrah.

The protagonist of the TV project will be a lieutenant of the New York Police Department, Charles Becker, who was tasked with restraining local Irish, Jewish and Italian gangs. To restore order in Tenderloin, the servants of the law had to resort to the dirtiest methods of work.

Modern historians tend to believe that over time, the members of Becker's squad turned out to be no less crimes than the bosses of the New York mafia. The head of the task force collected tribute from the owners of casinos and bars, participated in illegal transactions, and in 1912 even organized an attempt on the life of the bookmaker Hermann Rosenthal. As a result, Charles Becker became the first and only police officer in US history to be sentenced to death for murder.

The script for the pilot for Tenderloin will be written by Stephen T. Kaye (Sons of Anarchy), who has known Stallone since his time on Remove Carter. At the moment, Sylvester is preparing to release the fifth film about the adventures of John Rambo. In addition to working on the promising History project, the big screen legend's plans include shooting in the fourth part of The Expendables and the gangster drama Scarpa.
