King's Land of Joy to Become a TV Series
The world of film and television continues to experience another wave of kingomania. In the last five years alone, such TV series as Under the Dome, 11.22.63, Fog, Mister Mercedes and Castle Rock have been filmed based on the works of Stephen King. As it became known to the publication Deadline, the heroes of another popular book of the King of Horrors are preparing to travel to small screens. This time, the magical world of TV will open its doors for the characters of the mystical-psychological thriller “Land of Joy”.The novel went on sale in 2013 and earned King a nomination for the prestigious Edgar Allan Poe Literary Award. The main character of the book is a student Devin Jones, who took a summer job at the Land of Joy amusement park. One day a guy hears an urban legend that a ghost of a murdered girl dwells in one of the horror attractions. Without suspecting it, Devin finds himself involved in the investigation of her mysterious death ... The rights to film The Land of Joy were acquired by Freeform. Although the network is owned by the Disney Corporation, many of its projects are aimed at an adult audience. A couple of years ago, the channel's management already tried its hand at creating chilling horror films with the series "Dead Summer", which, as it seemed to many TV critics, was unfairly closed after the first season.
