Official: Super Mario Bros. Returns
In 1993, a movie based on the video game "Super Mario Bros" was so poorly received by critics and audiences that Nintendo Corporation stopped selling Hollywood the rights to film versions of its hits. It took 23 years before the management of the Japanese company announced that the famous characters of the game franchises will have another chance to conquer the world of big cinema.A few months ago, there was talk that Nintendo might join forces with renowned animation studio Illumination Entertainment on a Super Mario Bros. Today this information was officially confirmed by the American department of the Japanese corporation. "Nintendo and Illumination will partner with the Mario Adventure movie," Nintendo of America tweeted. Christopher Meledandri, creator of the game series Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination founder Christopher Meledandri, will produce the as-yet-unnamed cartoon about the plumber Mario about his brother Luigi. The animated film will be rented by the Universal Film Company.  Illumination Entertainment was founded just 11 years ago, but has already become the main competitor of such industry titans as DreamWorks Animation, Disney and Pixar. Six of Meledandri's eight full-length cartoons have traded the $ 500 million mark at the worldwide box office, and "Despicable Me 2", "Minions" and "Despicable Me 3" are among the fifty highest grossing film projects in history.
