Netflix Reveals History's Greatest Mysteries

Image The success of the American Crime Story anthology has opened the way for a host of new projects on TV screens about crime stories, police investigations, lawsuits and unsolved cases. As it became known to the publication Deadline, the streaming giant Netflix will try its hand at this exciting genre, having bought the rights to a remake of the famous TV series "Unsolved Mysteries.

The show debuted in January 1987. Over the next year and a half, NBC aired seven special episodes of "Unsolved Mysteries". The audience liked the novelty so much that the management of the television network placed an order for the production of the full first season. Starting in October 1988, the series began to air on a weekly basis.

Over time, the creators of "Unsolved Mysteries" went beyond the boundaries of criminal themes and began to touch upon many other mysteries of history - from contacts with extraterrestrial civilizations to paranormal phenomena. After nine seasons on NBC, the show moved to CBS, but only held its new location for two years. At the end of the last millennium, it was revived by the Lifetime television network, which released more than a hundred new episodes in two years.

The series' third rebirth came in 2007 when it moved under the wing of the Spike network. Another 175 episodes of "Unsolved Mysteries" were aired, but most of them were cut from existing episodes. Now the series is preparing for the fourth voyage on television.

The first season of the revived show will receive 12 episodes, each dedicated to a specific secret of humanity. Rumor has it that the series will be filmed in a documentary-fiction format, that is, in addition to scenes with professional actors, it will include interviews with real participants in the described events.

The project will be curated by Oscar-nominated Sean Levy, who is well acquainted with Netflix's management of the hugely popular Mysterious Events series.
