Mel Gibson will gather a wild gang

Image Mel Gibson's name has appeared in scandalous chronicles more than once, but Hollywood gave him a second chance. At first, Gibson received an Oscar nomination for the war drama "For reasons of conscience," and now one of the largest film studios is ready to work with him. According to Deadline, Mel will lead and write the script for a new version of The Wild Gang western for Warner Bros.

The original picture by Sam Peckinpah was released in 1969 and told about the already elderly criminal Pike Bishop, preparing to retire after a major robbery. However, in the office of the railway, where Bishop breaks in with his gang, they are awaited by an ambush, set up by the former partner of the protagonist Dick Thornton. The bandits flee and head to Mexico, but Thornton and a group of bounty hunters pursue them relentlessly.

"The Wild Bunch" is considered one of the best creations of Sam Peckinpah, who had a significant impact on the development of the Western genre. At the same time, the film was received ambiguously by the public, and all because of the abundance of violence on the screen, unusual for that time.

The Wild Gang remake was first discussed back in 2011. Then the director of the project was supposed to be Tony Scott, but his death put an end to further work. Subsequently, Will Smith planned to play the main role in the modernized version of the film, and Venezuelan Honatan Yakubovich was offered to take the director's chair.

Now Gibson, who is no stranger to showing violence and cruelty on the screen, will try to get the work on the tape off the ground. True, it is difficult to say when Mel will take on The Wild Gang, since in the spring he will start filming the war drama Destroyer. As for the acting work of Gibson, this year he will appear in the crime thriller "Roll into the Asphalt", and next year will premiere two films with his participation: the drama "The Professor and the Madman" and the fantastic action "The Last Level".
