Showtime is ready to get the ball rolling on its TV adaptation of the popular sci-fi media franchise Halo. The joint project of the cable TV network, Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television and gaming corporation 343 Industries has finally found a new director.The first Halo game was released in 2001. Since then, the shooter has received many sequels and spin-offs, which have sold 65 million copies. Unsurprisingly, the franchise soon took off in entirely new directions. Over the years, many books, comics and animation projects have been created based on her motives. The first attempts to film a game adaptation of Halo were made back in 2005, when Peter Jackson and Neil Blomkamp were working on a film project for 20th Century Fox and Universal Studios. The film never went into production, but the talented duo used their best practices to create the fantastic thriller District No. 9.  The warm welcome of the web projects Halo 4: Walking Toward Dawn and Halo: Twilight has rekindled interest in making a high-budget adaptation of the gaming franchise. This time, the game's producers decided to try their luck on TV and struck a deal with Showtime. At the end of last year, work on the series almost fell through due to the fact that the project left the director Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes). To the delight of gamers, Showtime management promptly found a replacement for him. British Otto Bathurst (Black Mirror, Peaky Blinders) will act as the main director of the nine-episode first season of Halo. The action of the game series takes place in the distant future, when the United Nations Space Command had to enter into a bloody conflict with alien races, united in the military alliance "Covenant". Details of the plot of the upcoming series are kept secret, but representatives of Showtime have already hinted that one of its key characters will be the main character of the franchise - the super-soldier Master Chief.
