”I swear to tell the truth ...”

Image Although this November will mark 55 years since the assassination of John F. Kennedy, American filmmakers continue to take an interest in the stories of one of the most mysterious crimes of the 20th century. As it became known to The Hollywood Reporter, Hollywood producers and screenwriters Drew and John Eric Dowdles (No Exit) have acquired the rights to film adaptation of Mark Shaw's book The Reporter Who Knew Too Much.

The main character of the book was the famous journalist and TV personality Dorothy Kilgallen, whose articles touched upon the most serious problems of American society. She was not afraid to find the dirty secrets of Frank Sinatra, helped to acquit the falsely accused of the murder of the wife of Dr. Samuel Sheppard, and also acted as a witness in the case of stand-up comedian Lenny Bruce, who was facing a serious prison term for using obscene language from the scene of a New York nightclub Cafe au Go Go.

In 1964, Dorothy Kilgallen was disappointed with the results of the work of a special commission to investigate the death of Kennedy, who concluded that the 35th President of the United States had been killed by the lone criminal Lee Harvey Oswald. Kilgallen launched her own investigative journalism. In August of the same year, she managed to get hold of the interrogation protocol of Jack Ruby, who shot Oswald at the Dallas police headquarters.

Kilgallen's materials challenged the Warren Commission's findings and spawned many conspiracy theories. In November 1965, Dorothy was found dead in her Manhattan townhouse. The cause of her death was an overdose of barbiturates and alcohol. According to the author of The Reporter Who Knew Too Much and millions of other Americans, the journalist could have been killed because she had valuable information on the Kennedy case.

In January 2017, the New York State Attorney's Office began a second investigation into the death of Dorothy Kilgallen, but after a few months it closed the case, not finding sufficient grounds to consider her death a violent one.
