Clint Eastwood is preparing a biopic about the notorious police officer
Despite the fact that the 89th birthday of the legendary Clint Eastwood is approaching, he is more busy than ever. This time, the restless filmmaker wants to direct a drama about American police officer Richard Jewell. Negotiations with Disney studio are in full swing.The Ballad of Richard Jewell tells the story of a police officer whose life was turned upside down after he found a homemade bomb in Atlanta's Olympic Park, where he worked as a security guard in 1996. Jewell defused the bomb and saved many lives by evacuating people. Later, the media leaked information that Jewella was considered a suspect, allowing for a possible single terrorist attack. A local newspaper decided to cash in on this, and thanks to the efforts of an overly zealous reporter, the cop turned from a hero to one of the most hated people in the United States. Three months later, the FBI dropped all charges against the policeman, but he never regained his reputation and his former faith in himself. Jewell subsequently continued to work in the police force. He died in 2007 of a heart attack at the age of 44. This is not the first time the sensational story of a policeman is trying to break through to the movie screens. In 2016, Ezra Edelman undertook to direct it, but the project was never implemented. For the role of Jewell, John Hill was targeted, and Leonardo DiCaprio was supposed to play a lawyer and friend of the protagonist. Now the actors are no longer on the list of candidates for the main roles, but they will remain in the project as producers.  It is quite possible that Eastwood will not become the director of the biopic, since he was already interested in this project in 2015, having seen clear potential in history, and then changed his mind. But if all goes according to plan, and filming begins this summer, Clint could finish the picture in the winter and release a ready-made award contender. Last year's Drug Courier, which also starred Eastwood, was a commercial success, while his other film, Train to Paris, was not as profitable.
