Hollywood is ready to reveal the secrets of Guantanamo

Image In 2015, Zero Gravity Management decided to tell the world the life story of Mohamed Slahi, a Mauritanian who spent nearly fifteen years in the infamous Guantanamo prison. As it became known to the publication Deadline, the Hollywood studio has finally decided on the name of the director of the film "Guantanamo Diary".

In the early 90s of the last century, Slahi visited Afghanistan twice to support the mujahideen in the fight against the communist regime. A decade later, he was suspected of planning a series of terrorist attacks in the United States. Although Mohamed claimed that after his second visit to Afghanistan, he severed all ties with the banned Al-Qaeda organization in the USA Federation, the Mauritanian authorities handed him over to the agents of the American special services.

Mohamed first spent eight months in Jordan and then was transported to Cuba. Despite the fact that no formal charges were ever brought against him, Slahi spent 14 years in Guantanamo prison. Over the years, he has been interrogated and tortured many times.

In 2015, the Mauritanian managed to get his autobiography published. Although Guantanamo Diary became a bestseller in the United States, Slahi was refused a request for at least one copy of the book. Fortunately for Mohamed, the memoir helped draw public attention to his case. On October 17, 2016, he was finally released.

The biographical drama was written by Michael Bronner. The well-known American journalist and TV producer already has experience of cooperation with Hollywood studios: at one time he consulted the creators of the films "Lost Flight" and "Captain Phillips". Oscar-winning director Kevin MacDonald ("The Last King of Scotland") will be responsible for the script.
