Oleg Pavlovich was born into a family of doctors in Saratov. After graduation, Tabakov went to Moscow, where he entered the Moscow Art Theater School. Already in his third year, Oleg Pavlovich got his first major role - he played Sasha Komelev in the drama "Sasha enters life." Many critics considered the actor's debut quite successful.

In 1957, the Studio of Young Actors was created at the Moscow Art Theater School, which was later transformed into "Sovremennik". Tabakov not only became the youngest of the founders of the theater, but also performed his first theatrical role in it. Artists "Sovremennik" were incredibly in demand in the profession, which could not but affect the health of Tabakov - at the age of 29 he suffered a heart attack. However, this did not prevent him from returning to the stage in a few months. Oleg Pavlovich stayed at Sovremennik until 1983, and during his work here he managed to organize his own studio and recruit his first acting course.
