Sam Mendes is expected on the sidelines of the First World War

Image After the release of SPECTRUM, director Sam Mendes took a sabbatical, which dragged on for several years, and now it seems to be coming to an end. As the portal Deadline found out, the Oscar winner begins preparations for the filming of his next film, which will be the war drama about the First World War "1917" for the company of Steven Spielberg Amblin Partners.

Notably, Mendes made his directing debut with American Beauty, produced by DreamWorks Pictures, and Steven Spielberg is among the founders of the studio. The legendary filmmaker supported Mendes in everything, and as a result, "American Beauty" deservedly took five Oscars into the box. The details of the new joint project of Mendes and Spielberg are kept secret, but the latter described the tape as something bold and ambitious. Therefore, it is not surprising that such giants of the film industry as Paramount, Sony and New Regency fought alongside Amblin for the right to take the drama under their wing.

The new drama will also be the official screenwriting debut for Mendes, who will write the text for the picture along with Christy Wilson-Cairns ("The Horrors of the Boulevard"). Filming is scheduled to start next spring, and the producers are planning to release the film by December 2019.

After SPECTRUM, Sam Mendes worked for a while on the game remake of Pinocchio for Disney, but left the project in November last year. The director also planned to shoot the picture "Voyeur Motel", but changed his mind after the release of a documentary on the same topic.
