Image Over the past four years, renowned American director and producer Lee Daniels ("The Treasure") has created two musical television projects for the Fox channel at once. As it became known to the Variety edition, the two-time Oscar nominee can make another gift for music lovers. Daniels is considering an invitation to headline a film about the life of legendary jazz singer Billie Holiday.

The future Grammy Hall of Famer was born in Philadelphia in 1915. At the age of 14, the girl moved to New York, where she and her mother had to rent a room in a Harlem brothel. The best way to escape the harsh reality for Billy was to study music. Holiday began performing on the Harlem nightclub scene in the late 1920s. A couple of years later, the famous music producer John Hammond drew attention to the talented vocalist, who invited her to sign her first professional contract.

Billy's peak of fame came in the mid-40s, when she became one of the most sought-after and highest paid singers in America. Unfortunately, Holiday was unable to handle the burden of success. In 1947 she was arrested for drug possession and put behind bars. After her release, Billy tried to revive her career, but she never got rid of drug and alcohol addiction. The singer squandered her fortune and died at the age of 44 from cirrhosis of the liver.

Pulitzer Prize-winning Susan-Laurie Parks (Their Eyes Were Watching God) will write the screenplay for the tragic fate of Billie Holiday. Rumor has it that contemporary American rhythm and blues star Andra Day is claiming the role of jazz legend. The musical drama will be produced by Joe Roth (Mona Lisa Smile) and Mark Bomback (Planet of the Apes: Revolution).
