James Gunn rushes to DC's rescue

Image Ever since Disney removed James Gunn from directing the third Guardians of the Galaxy and no longer wants to do business with him, moviegoers have speculated about where Gunn would direct his talent. Insiders report that many major Hollywood studios would like to work with the filmmaker and offer him interesting projects. It looks like the most tempting offer to Gunn was made by Warner Bros.

The Wrap news site reports that James is in talks with the Major, and if successful, he will become the writer of Suicide Squad 2 with the option to also lead the blockbuster in the future.

Those following the fate of the DC Cinematic Universe know that the sequel to Suicide Squad has already faced some difficulties. After the first part grossed $ 746 million, but also received a lot of negative reviews in the press, the WB management decided not to continue cooperation with director David Eyre. Last September, Gavin O'Connor was chosen as the director of the project, and in June, David Bar Katz and Todd Stashwick agreed to work on the script for the superhero action.

It is reported that O'Connor is no longer associated with Suicide Squad 2. According to unconfirmed information, the script for the sequel turned out to be almost identical to the script for "Birds of Prey", and the WB made a choice in favor of the latter. This was the reason why O'Connor decided to leave the project and turn his attention to a sports drama starring Ben Affleck.

As for the choice of James Gunn for the post of at least the scriptwriter of the sequel, such a move is a very reasonable decision on the part of the major. It was once thought that Suicide Squad would become something of the Guardians of the Galaxy for the DC universe. It is reported that Gann has his own view of what the sequel should be, and, apparently, we should expect some kind of reboot from him. It is unclear if any of the cast of the first part will return, as the second could reflect a new vision of WB bosses leaning towards more detached stories.
