We take DVDs from the shelf and knowing how everything will begin and end, we watch "The Memory Diary" over and over again ... We watch our favorite scene on the lake in the rain, we look like Noah and Ellie are dancing in the street, like an elderly woman with a beautiful face listening to an elderly man's story about a long-standing love story ...  The story from this movie seemed so simple and straightforward. Today, a very middle-aged man Duke in a nursing home tells a seriously ill elderly lady a love story that began before World War II. Love of a simple boy named Noah and a city girl from a wealthy family Ellie . A chance meeting, love at first sight, romantic dates ... But reality interferes in the life of a boy and a girl. And reality is a class society. And the girl at the age of 17 succumbs to the persuasion of her parents. Parting. War. Other novels. But there are relationships that cannot be simply forgotten and erased from memory. And when, after the war, Noah and Ellie meet again, everything starts from the beginning ... And continues throughout life. And an elderly, but still very beautiful woman, listening to this story, at some point remembers that this is a story about her, and that the man who tells her about the past every day is her husband, her Noah .  Nicholas Sparks' novel The Notebook was released in 1996 and immediately became a bestseller. Sparks wrote a book inspired by the life and love story of his grandparents. Studio New Line Cinema immediately bought out the rights to the film adaptation, but it took seven years before filming began. At the very beginning, it was planned to invite Ashley Judd to the role of Ellie , but time has made adjustments. In 2003, Nick Cassavetes was appointed director. This was his fourth film. Cassavetes had its own source of inspiration - the wonderful romance between his parents, the great director John Cassavetes and the dazzling and extraordinarily talented actress Gina Rowlands. He invited his mother to play elderly Ellie .  Cassavetes was looking for the role Nov some little-known actor, and his choice fell on 23-year-old Ryan Gosling. Gosling was surprised, but he really liked the opportunity to play the character at different ages of his life, for ten years. The actress for the role of Ellie was searched for for a long time, but when Rachel McAdams appeared on the audition, Cassavetes said:"This is her". There was such chemistry between Gosling and Mcadams that the set began to smoke.Famous actors Sam Shepard and the mother of Ellie Mrs. Hamilton played the role of the father of Noah , Frank Calhoun and Joan Allen. The film was shot in a small town in South Carolina. Whether its creators expected great success is hard to say. The actors were little-known, the director had only a loud surname of his father, the plot was good, but how many melodramas Hollywood has released in a hundred years ... And, perhaps, the tremendous success came as a surprise. The Memory Diary is the 12th highest grossing melodrama of all time. The film did not collect big awards, but it received much more - the boundless love of the audience. What is the secret to the charm of The Memory Diary ?  Gosling and McAdamsbecame the ideal choice - they were natural, they struck with the charm of the old times, what the Americans callold charm. They looked easy, and they seemed to be acting without feeling the movie camera. Their dialogues were both romantic and witty. The cinematography of Robert Fresse was impeccable. Gina Rowlands as an elderly Ellie fascinated. Together, all these factors had an intoxicating effect on the viewer.The film managed to avoid the sweetness and excessive sentimentality inherent in such, in fact, a difficult genre like melodrama. "Diary of Memory" began to enter all the top melodramas of all time, not only because of box office success. He has some subtle charm that is difficult to capture in words. "The Diary of Memory" belongs to those rare melodramas that are loved not only by women, but also by men. And even though we know how this story will begin and end, we still take DVDs from the shelf and find ourselves in a small town in the southern states, and watch with pleasure for the hundredth time as a blonde-haired blue-eyed boy calls out to a red-haired girl, and we hold our breath, waiting for them to succeed.
