And now, the very moment of truth has come and the "X-hour" - "The Defenders" went to a wide international distribution. Some waited for USA superheroics as heavenly mana, others as divine punishment. Presumably, the marketing talent of the Andreasyan brothers contributed a lot to this. So how did the movie turn out?

The plot is similar to a regular superhero epic: a team of assembled supermen confront a renegade villain who seeks to take over the world. The difference is that it is billed as a movie about international superheroes from the former Soviet republics. Their supernatural abilities are designed to reflect the national mentality. The symbol of USA – bear and heroes, so Anton Pampushny played here the werewolf-bear Arsus, with the manners of a hero. Kazakh Khan (Sanzhar Madiev), for the sake of the nomadic lifestyle of his ancestors, is a runner. The Armenian Leer can naturally manipulate the land. The abilities of the Ukrainian woman Ksenia (Alina Lanina) are explained in less detail - – it controls water, and its powers make it possible to be invisible and insensitive to temperature extremes. This is explained like this – Ksenia is from the port city of Sevastopol, and according to this principle, the scientist Kuratov made the poor thing a `` water maiden ''. And finally, Kuratov himself, a kind of crazy scientist, a cliched evil USA. He is a technopath who manages any electrical engineering, and also has an army of his own clones.

This is not to say that this movie is completely mediocre. It has great potential, but, unfortunately, it is extremely poorly developed. Apparently this is a sacrifice for the sake of entertainment, a modest budget and hopes for a large cash register. After all, just think, it's difficult to call heroes and cardboard, they have a personal tragedy, including the villain. But it remains unsaid, with the aim of being revealed in the sequel. When you watch The Defenders, you get the feeling that a good sci-fi movie with a long timekeeping has been put under the knife, significantly reduced.

Take, for example, the same August Kuratov. He has some kind of secret, because of which he does not want to kill the heroes, limiting himself to beating them. And indeed, at some point, the viewer may begin to look for why Kuratov regrets his offspring. But the plot does not reveal this, trying to create a riddle in this way. In addition, August Kuratov has an army of his own clones, which, according to the concepts of the movie, are his copies, hiding their faces under strange masks. This concept is not used in any way in the movie, and walking tanks are here for beauty. The only thing that is thought out in the image of the villain is the use of the military power of the USA state. It really looks original: firstly, war movies are shot well in USA; secondly – despite a number of failures in the economy, domestic politics, the automotive industry, military power remains the country's main joker on the world stage. However, Kuratov's appearance is simply depressing. Again, it was possible to save a lot of time and resources simply by putting armor on the actor. And why not show separate, personal scenes about Kuratov? Judging by his shabby appearance, he could, say, take drugs, or better yet - to alcohol, if only for the sake of laughter. That would explain a lot.

The viewer does not have time to identify himself with this or that protagonist, the promised stereotypes and mentality of the heroes are not manifested in any way. More or less Lehr is revealed, there are two scenes that can be equally scolded and praised. In the first one, we are shown Lera praying in the ancient monastery of Khor Virab, at the end of the prayer he negotiates with Larina. He makes a speech about how he is too tired of the war and does not want to play government games. Major Larina's counter-argument is an offer of revenge, and suddenly the monk immediately agrees. It's not a secret for anyone that the Armenians are deeply believing Christians, and such a devout Armenian as Lehr could not agree to revenge. For motivation, a more serious reason is needed, in this case it was on the surface, but the moviemakers, for some reason, did not use it: Kuratov seeks to destroy the floor of Moscow, sacrifice thousands of innocents. Is this not a motivation for a believing Christian to take up arms in order to save the innocent and punish the villain? And the motive for revenge can only speak of the negativity of such a character.

In another scene, we are shown his physical suffering, mixed with a monologue on the hardships and hardships of immortality. This is one of the most solidly done episodes of the movie, but other characters have less time for this kind of detail. But there is unjustifiably a lot of posturing, as if this is not a movie, but a photo session.

Things are even worse with Arsus. After all, how strange it turns out: the representative of the consolidating nation is hardly noticeable here. How is that? In the form of a half-bear and a bear, the character is more entertaining than when Pampushny's acting. Bear at least takes action scenes and humor. The only actor who somehow stands out for a good game is the speaker performed by Dmitry Savyanenko.

As for the accusations of plagiarism and secondary. Borrowing more in terms of scenes than characters. For example, the synergy of forces generally repeats the second part of the Fantastic Four. and Guardians of the Galaxy. It looked like a silly piano in the bushes in those movies, so why use it here? There are allusions to the "Guardians" Zach Snyder and "Hellboy" Del Toro. This similarity can be clearly seen in the opening credits scene and does not look like plagiarism, but rather a tribute. But in this case, this is just an application for solid science and social fiction, the topic has not been disclosed. It's understandable that the producers have a business approach to the movie that is almost win-win for most of their movies. The risk of taking off a highly artistic tape is too great for them, it will be risky in terms of profit. It's a pity, the movie would have turned out to be "Guardians" with a bias in kindness.

Of the good, one can single out the high-quality work of the operator Maxim Osadchy, who is in demand in almost all spectacular movie operas in today's USA. There are no comments, both in sound and in music. The graphics are lame on both legs in half the cases, but the large-scale scenes using CGI are really amazing.

The "Defenders" tape has a huge potential, which has received a crude embodiment. The movie may appeal to viewers not 12+, but rather children under 12 years old. He could also fully justify himself if he came out with a high level of brutality and bloodletting, such as "Hardcore". In this case, even with mediocre drama and CGI, it would be necessary to draw as much blood and severed limbs as possible – many will appreciate it.

This is the usual mainstream, light-budget version of "Transformers". Rating 5/10.

PS: Since there will be a sequel, the creators of the franchise would like to wish good-quality diligent work on all the mistakes and more strong-willed decisions. The only question is, will the moviemakers themselves and their competitors take into account the mistakes? After all, other manifestations of superhero cinema are not far off.
