Not life, but solid ”Cococo”. Review of the film by Avdotya Smirnova

Image Cococo, Avdotya Smirnova's tape, was shown to residents of St. Petersburg and guests of the Northern capital at the closing of the Festival of Festivals. The choice of the organizers fell on this film not by chance - where is yet, if not in the city on the Neva, the audience could be so deeply imbued with the picture, the action in which takes place in St. Petersburg. However, this does not mean at all that the message of the authors will be alien and incomprehensible to everyone else. Avdotya Smirnova and Anna Parmas managed to easily, like a woman, gently transfer the contradictions of today's life to the screen, to allow them to laugh at their own mistakes.

Viewers of Cococo are given the opportunity to plunge into the atmosphere of St. Petersburg for an hour and a half, no matter where they are on the earth, and get acquainted with representatives of the local intelligentsia through the example of one of the two main characters - the artist's daughter, an employee of the Museum of Anthropology and ethnography named after Peter the Great, better known as the Kunstkamera. The second, a newcomer from"Eburg", -has a much simpler pedigree, and the girl herself does not at all claim to be an intellectual. She is a hacker and a tough guy who enjoys life and doesn't think about tomorrow.

At first glance, the heroines do not look alike at all. Liza (Anna Mikhalkova) understands art and participates in rallies, Vika (Yana Troyanova) - feels like a fish in water in any club and can easily fight off hooligans. But, despite the visible differences, both in characters and in upbringing, they are in many ways similar, although they deal with troubles in different ways. Mutual sympathy develops between the girls, and Lisa invites Vika to live in her apartment for a while. But soon the first love develops into irritation, because their lifestyles are largely mutually exclusive.

Avdotya Smirnova, behind whose shoulders "Two Days" and the script "Walking", was able to shoot a simple, in a good sense of the word, and light tragicomedy, understandable to every resident of USA, and, perhaps, to any viewer outside of our vast homeland. With humor, in many respects topical, everything is also good in the film, probably the great experience of Parmas as a director and screenwriter of such famous TV shows in the past as "Beware, Modern!" and "Beware, Zadov!". Although representatives of the beautiful half of humanity worked on the film, and the main characters are women, the tape is not a film from the category of"cinema for girls".This is a film not about the life of representatives of a particular gender, but about how many-sided a person can be.
