Review of the movie Beyond / Self. Out of / meaning

As is often the case with Ryan Reynolds' movies lately, Beyond / Myself is a much more interesting concept than the work itself. And for Reynolds it becomes somehow distinctly awkward somewhere in the middle of the viewing, because you understand that he is playing quite believably, but neither the director Tarsem Sinh, nor the screenwriters of the Pastor brothers do him or themselves honor, surrounding the actor with raw blanks instead of a ready-made plot.

The movie turned out to be pale. The stylistic coloring of Tarsem Sinha was significantly reduced, transferring the action to some kind of reality. The writers blurred the plot about a rich old man, whose consciousness is transferred into a young body, that if you enter the hall in the middle, you might think that someone staged a show of the `` Areas of Darkness '' with a haircut Bradley Cooper. And the secondary nature of everything that happens is not the main problem. Once again, in the trailer for the movie, almost the entire plot was shown, and it is not difficult to predict the ending. Even the picture often came out colorless, as if she too had become a hostage to the monochromatic corridors of a secret corporation.

Moreover, all the philosophical ideas that could and should have done “ Beyond / myself ” something more than just another popcorn flick, either they were problematic from the beginning, or they were poorly translated into the language of cinema. Because in the end, the movie looks like an ordinary inexpensive thriller with not enough suspense and too much talk. If there is something really smart there, it quickly slides off the windshield of the audience, leaving only a blurry wet plot.

Ryan Reynolds himself said in an interview that he was initially attracted to the project by an intellectual background, which shadows all talk about immortality. So I must say that in philosophical questions, Reynolds' talent is useless. It looks much more successful in action scenes (not exciting enough to really impress, but at the same time replacing the intellectual ideas of the movie with empty nuts, since there is no time left for them) and almost imperceptible humor. Reynolds's strength is not in the dramatic material, even if he is at least good in it.

Ben Kingsley is completely useless. As is often the case with modern action movies, to do it in “ Out / yourself ” absolutely nothing. And in general, the material does not allow any of the actors to open up especially. The script is too tightly bound to the plot to pay more attention to the characters. Matthew Goode, for example, also plays with dignity, but without a twist.

The plot quickly turns into a rather liquid mess, fortunately, it ends quite quickly. “ Beyond / myself ” definitely did not turn out to be protracted and it is quite easy to enjoy watching, unless, of course, going to the cinema is an event. “ Beyond / myself ” is not an event. This is a mediocre TV movie: from music to camera work.

Conclusion: if you often fly long distances, have watched all the other movies and re-read all the books, then probably watching `` Out / myself '' will be acquitted. Otherwise, you don't even need to watch it at home. There are many other movies with the same themes, with stronger acting, with a more interesting and exciting storyline, which also looks and sounds better. “ Beyond / myself ” turned out not completely a thriller and not completely a philosophical study of life, death and morality.
