While diving into the Mariana Trench, James Cameron used a unique complex of stereoscopic cameras, created specifically for this mission by him and his partner Vince Pace. Showcased his invention at NAB2012, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“We created a thumb-sized camera that can shoot at 1080p in an extremely durable titanium case. The stereoscopic effect is achieved by shooting with two such cameras. We placed this system on a special two-meter boom, which allowed us, among other things, to capture the underwater vehicle itself while diving to a depth of 11 kilometers. In total, six such cameras were involved, one of them was installed inside the bathyscaphe and recorded all my actions. All the data went to hard drives capable of capturing ten hours of such video, "Cameron said.

According to him, it took six months to create this movieing complex. James Cameron did not rule out that miniature cameras will be used during the work on Avatar 2.

“It is quite possible. For example, for shooting from the first person. I'll think about it, ”the director added.
