Review of the cartoon Ice Age 5: Collision is imminent. Deja vu is inevitable

Telling about this cartoon is the same as describing the dullness of monotonous everyday life. It's strange, because an entertainment product turns into hard labor for its consumer. At least for adults. For kids 6 to 12 years old, it's like going to a fast food restaurant and eating a burger with the same ingredients. Delicious, albeit harmful!

Animation studio Blue Sky releases the fifth "Ice Age". Tactical considerations apparently boil down to the following: in order not to seem too annoying, you need to shoot each subsequent part with an interval of three or four years, so that the impressions of the previous one have already dispelled - and then again blame the next movie on everyone's head and it will look like the first time. Or everything is much simpler - a simple manipulation of the viewer's consciousness. The franchise has cut so deeply into the hearts of people that it imposes a certain responsibility and a sense of duty to it. It would be blasphemy not to see even the twenty-fifth Ice Age! And the collection of the cartoon, exceeding the $ 800 million mark - indicates that this "burger" is eaten in unlimited quantities.

Let's move on from the prelude specifically to the movie. Its plot outline and scenario moves are absolutely identical to the previous parts. Above our inseparable couple - a mammoth, a saber-toothed tiger and a sloth - and everyone else, another threat looms. We have already observed global warming and continental drift - now the root cause of a new cataclysm is being transferred to outer space. A meteorite is approaching the Earth. But this does not bother our heroes much, although out of habit they try to escape. Most of all they are concerned with their personal lives. Mammoth Manny and his wife are still worried about their daughter Peach, who is preparing to link her fate with a mammoth named Julian. Parents are aware of the need for changes - an adult child must leave them soon. In addition, the relationship between the future son-in-law and the father-in-law is not easy. Everything is stable for the tiger Diego and his companion Shira. But it doesn't have to be that way. Therefore, the only problem that must be overcome is to become your own in the eyes of others and dispel the fear of small herbivores before their predatory nature. And the sloth Sid begins to look for a girlfriend. And again, the weird possums Crash and Eddie, the warlike weasel Bud and the crazy granny Sid accompany our friends on their adventures.

So that the structure of the narrative does not look bony (after all, this is again fermenting from place to place, overcoming dangers and talking about oneself), the authors have increased the movie a little meat, resorting to a proven method. They beat him to capacity with numerous references to famous movies. They also managed to insert a biblical piece, as well as (to the credit of the cartoon!) Cleverly parody the popular scientific program. When the action is transferred into space (where Scrat the squirrel smokes in pursuit of its acorn), the symphony of R. Strauss "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" sounds and the prepared viewer is mentally transferred to Stanley Kubrick's movie "A Space Odyssey". The main artifact of that movie - black monolithic slabs are also presented here, although they serve as tablets on which prophecies regarding the fate of the meteorite are carved.

How many of these associative scenes - and to "Prometheus", and to "The Day After Tomorrow", and to "Pirates" (the source of eternal youth) and even to "The Devil's Advocate"!

The only thing that stands out against this background is a really original and ridiculously played out reference to Mogran Freeman's TV shows "Through the Wormhole", where a weasel made up as the host explains the formation of Mars in its current form - this is someone's will, chance or tricks Sprat ?!

Humor in the cartoon is only visual. His dialogues are idle chatter of heroes. They only voice their thoughts and feelings. Or it is a primitive joke based on contrasts - "yes" and "no". When the character says that everything is fine, and that some kind of attack falls on him. After all, it is characteristic that the Sprat squirrel likes and makes smiles more than anyone else, who does not utter a single word for the movie!

All in all, Ice Age 5: Collision Imminent is the fifth burger you eat in a single day. It's already hard for the stomach. The cartoon does not develop in any way, plays out the same scenario moves, is very predictable, drives itself into a dead end, from which one way out is self-digging. At the very beginning, the Age of Dinosaurs breaks out with vicious bird-rex. The promised new character - Shangri Lama appears briefly and does not make any impression. If the franchise is already turning in the opposite direction in search of characters and a new space, is this not a good reason to say that it has exhausted itself a long time ago and is really tired of it ?!
