Stories about criminals who in one way or another get into the house of peaceful people and begin to terrorize the latter, have always enjoyed noticeable popularity. So there are more than a dozen representatives of this subgenre. "Who's There", a new project directed by Eli Roth, is experiencing notable problems not only with originality. He is simply mercilessly disgraceful in everything he tries to say or show. So, in the end, you can neither scold nor praise him, and the absolute absence of any emotions after watching – this is the only thing that somehow defines this project.

The plot is for the most part an exploration of human loyalty, completely devoid of both interesting observations and insightful conclusions. Hero Keanu Reeves, architect, decent husband and worthy father, becomes a victim of two young ladies who, under an ill-conceived pretext, get into his house and seduce him, thereby showing that all ideals collapse in the face of two elastic temptations.

Keanu Reeves, firstly, is uncompromisingly nightmare here, and secondly, in the most unexpected way, disgusting. Despite the fact that he plays, as they say, a good guy who, by an unfortunate accident, made mistakes. Who does not happen to, you ask, but Eli Roth, apparently, is an exemplary family man, and therefore decisively portrays Reeves' hero as a scum and a bastard: on the one hand, a mumbled and weakling, and on the other, a cheater. Between these two unenviable states, Reeves tears himself apart, every now and then breaking into helpless and unnatural screams and crying.

However, Reeves remains in the game until the very end. He selflessly adheres to the course set by the director, even if he kills the last remnants of those hopes that Reeves will regain his status as a Hollywood hero. Reeves fully demonstrates his helplessness in the face of even the simplest material, so that loyal fans will not be able to ignore it.

Two young villains Lorenza Izzo and Ana de Armas show great confidence in their skills support each scene with their own game and almost instantly draw all the attention to themselves (even if the too long first act seems to deliberately delay their appearance). But their main difference from Reeves is that they manage to create the feeling that there is a good reason behind their actions, as if they both have a long history behind them, the complete biography of these two crazy heroines. They themselves, not due to the script, but due to the presentation of the written phrases, they add depth to the movie, which the scriptwriters did not even dream of worthy of mentioning.

What can I say if Eli Roth, famous for his bloody horror movies, in `` Who's There ''; can't even justify a strict rating that prevents people under 18 years of age from viewing. Sex behind the fogged glass of the shower, violence invented by a child and relying solely on chance, and in the end, complete disappointment from expectations unrealized on the screen do not justify the prohibitions put forward by the censorship. But many scenes with seemingly endless conversations, all curling and curling without any logic or intention, quickly turn the thriller into a burdensome soap opera.

By the way, it is the thriller in `` Who is there ''; does not smell even a mile away, because something, and the tension there is not felt forever. The straightforward plot is chewed and chewed, practically without moving from one point, as soon as the act of treason occurs. And Eli Roth himself does not add creepiness, preferring well-lit interiors to a gloomy atmosphere, and a total prevalence of ordinary music to unconventional sound solutions.

In conclusion, it is worth adding that just as the two villains in the movie mocked the statues created by the wife of the hero Keanu Reeves, Eli Roth himself and his entire team with relish mocked cinema here as art, that at least disrespectful to the loyal fans of the latter. But in the most honest way, “ Who is there ” will disappear from public consciousness as quickly as it enters,
