Most sports movies (from boxing and baseball to bobsleigh and auto racing) are very similar to each other and often copy the same plot story: the main character, being a simple unknown person, which even in their own family they do not love it very much, conquers the heights of this or that sport and, naturally, achieves the highest success in it (otherwise, why shoot such a movie). But the painting `` The Fighter '' David O. Russell is somewhat surprised in this regard, because he talks not so much about conquering the peaks as about resigning himself to his own failure.

the movie is based on true events. Brothers Mickey Ward and Dickie Ward have decided from childhood on their professional future – they are both boxers. But life did not dispose quite the way they dreamed of being children. Having already matured, Dickey received considerable success in the ring, however, despite the speed and well-developed strategy of the fight, due to drugs he was forced to leave boxing and is now engaged in training his younger brother Mickey for future victories.

In general, the plot of the movie is good and focuses its attention no longer on battles and a successful career, but on the personal problems of both brothers, of which they have plenty. The movie very clearly demonstrates the situation when the family – not the best assistant in career advancement. And Mickey Ward's family is far from ideal: the addict brother constantly attracts problems, some completely inadequate sisters constantly humiliate his girlfriend, and his mother seems to not notice anyone except his older brother Dickie. And only Charlene's girlfriend helps him to control himself.

However, if you take a closer look at the local history, you can understand that Despite all attempts to make Mickey Ward the main character (he has many times more screen time), his older brother Dickie is still the center of the narrative and the main conflict in the plot. It is his character that awaits the biggest changes in the entire movie. Still, this is a damn interesting character, at least for the sake of which this movie is worth watching.

But who struck in the heart, it was Christian Bale. On the screen, he creates something completely unimaginable, literally living the life of his character (and it's not just his next exhaustion). His facial expressions and voice play are simply indescribable, and how much he resembles his real prototype can be understood by seeing the real Dickie Ward in the final credits.

When the events of the movie move from acting to the boxing ring, we are shown superbly staged fights. The director deliberately abandoned any newfangled gadgets like clip editing and focused his attention on realism. No fast-paced shooting, no sharp edits, no shaking camera – everything is served at its best and looks very spectacular. Literally in every blow and every movement you feel professionalism, as if you are not well-trained actors, but professional wrestlers.

Summarizing the above it should be noted that this is almost the best sports drama in the last few years. Although the movie may be a little predictable (although this is probably the trouble with all tapes based on real events), the characters and acting redeem everything. So fans of touching dramas should like it, and sports fans will also be pleased to watch smartly staged boxing matches.
