Oscar Winner screenwriter Eric Roth explained why Robert Zemeckis gave up on the idea of making a sequel to Forrest Gump. The reason was the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

Roth argues that the script of the movie, the action of which was supposed to begin from the moment at which the first movie ended, would be ready the day before the dramatic events in New York and Washington. After the terrorist attacks, Zemeckis, Hanks and Roth got together and decided that the sequel `` no longer makes sense '', since the world has changed dramatically.

It was assumed that in the second episode Gump will fight in Iraq, destroy the Berlin Wall and meet with Tom Hanks himself.
