Review of the movie Fir-Trees 1914. Fir-trees, dense forest

The further into the forest, the more impassable the jungle … Having decided that age-old spruces are more interesting than the usual youngsters' Christmas trees, Bekmambetov and K ’ managed to wander into such a thicket that one wonders how they did not get lost there at all. This time, however, everything worked out. But still a little bit and … and " Fir-trees 1914 " would be the last for the most successful USA franchise. Because there are too many miscalculations. Too much. And, by the way, feeding the people the same dish for four years, of course, is not good, but drastically changing the recipe – worse. After all, we are waiting for one – we get something else. " Chef " for such `` tricks '' can also lather your neck …

So what happened? `` This time we decided to go a little outside the format " quot; Elok, - said producer and director Olga Kharina at a press conference. – We moved the action 100 years ago, to 1914. You can't shoot the same movie forever! '' Who would argue: of course not! Moreover, the franchise really needed an update: not that everyone was tired of it, but ... The only catch is that in 1914, as you remember, the First World War began. A `` New Year amid a disaster '' and " carefree happy new year " these, gentlemen, are different things.

And look what happens. A young cadet aviator (Alexander Pal) meets an impregnable student of medical courses (Vera Panfilova). She jokingly appoints him a date in a year – under the Christmas tree on December 25, 1914. However, the outbreak of war changes everything: the Duma adopts a decree banning the holiday (since it is useless to maintain German traditions). By that time, the guy will get to the hospital where our Tanya works as a nurse. Upon learning about the cancellation of the trees, Ivan advertises the newspaper, urging people to sign petitions against the Duma law: since there is no tree, there is no promised date. The country responds: signatures are collected amicably, by the whole world, in all cities. (Thus, this story with petitions becomes a connecting link for all 6 novels of `` Fir 1914 '').

And everything would be fine if it were not for the war … Imagine: at the beginning of the movie, black and white footage of the military chronicle; scene of action – hospital, soldiers on crutches, wounded on stretchers ... And the jokes are appropriate (fortunately, there are not too many of them): for example, our old acquaintances `` skier '' (Alexander Domogarov Jr.) and the snowboarder (Alexander Golovin) volunteer to go to the front and do not get tired of laughing: `` And they will rip your leg off ... And you – hand … And they will gouge your eye out ... And you will be stabbed with a bayonet " Hellip; After all this, the New Year's mood is literally `` off scale. ''

And the very idea of petitions … When an orphanage girl `` appoints '' in her fathers DA Medvedev, and the other is trying to marry two dogs in love - this may be silly, but naive and cute. (In any case, this is the best for a family comedy). But when two hungry children beg, because their mother is dying (!), And there is no money for medicine - then this is a completely different story. And the endless chatter about the `` importance of petitions '' against this background it looks just some kind of nonsense.

True, here we must pay tribute to the producers: they seem to have guessed themselves that they had wandered in the wrong place. Therefore, only one plot can be called purely military, in all others the war fades into the background. There are also episodes where it is hardly felt at all, for example, the short story of Boris and Zhenya (Ivan Urgant and Sergei Svetlakov). But even here, not everything, thank God: the plot was movieed in Anapa, and such a sultry summer blooms in the frame that there is no trace of any associations with the New Year. A short story `` Bear ''? Filmed amazingly (directed by Yuri Bykov), played too: peasant dolt Senka (Anton Bogdanov), master drunk (Yan Tsapnik), Mishka-Stepan – individual applause for him. But the plot itself is obscenely bearded, remember at least `` Features of the national hunt. ''

By the way, about the actors. It seems that they are the ones who save the movie (which is the worth of the children's acting couple Sofia Khilkova and Daniil Izotov). Well, the skill of some directors, of course, for example, Alexander Karpilovsky, who is able to squeeze a tear not only from any spectator, but even, it seems, from an empty spectator's chair (the novel `` Chaliapin '', in my opinion, is the best of all). And yet.

The trouble is that the military theme is forced to dictate its own style: the buffoonery and tomfoolery has become much less, the rhythm has slowed down (and the novels themselves are not replacing each other so quickly). Forget about carefree laughter at least in the first half of the movie. Towards the end of Fir Trees 1914 `` disperse '': the usual drive will appear, and even something New Year's will finally begin to hatch (albeit with difficulty). In general, there was no failure, although it seems that the producers had every chance to get into the galoshes. But a failure or not, and a holiday movie such `` Christmas trees '' can only be called with a very big stretch. And no final round dances with the chimes will correct this.

the producers had every chance to get into the galoshes. But a failure or not, and a holiday movie such `` Christmas trees '' can only be called with a very big stretch. And no final round dances with chimes will fix this.
