Scarlett Johansson has agreed to star in the movie adaptation of the popular Japanese manga Ghost in the Shell. This is reported by Variety with reference to its sources.

The plot of the manga, which has been published since 1989, is built around a special unit dealing with high-tech crime. The rights to the movie adaptation of the comic are owned by DreamWorks. The realization of this project is an old dream of the owner of the studio Steven Spielberg. Most likely, the movie will be shot in collaboration with Paramount Studios. The production will be directed by Rupert Sanders.

Initially, the main contender for the main role was considered to be the actress Margot Robbie, known to the audience in the movie "The Wolf of Wall Street". Most likely, the latter refused this offer, preferring the role of Harley Quinn in the movie adaptation of the comic "Suicide Squad".

In 2014, Scarlett Johansson appeared on the screens in two major projects - "The First Avenger 2: The Other War" and "Lucy". Both of them were successful at the worldwide box office. In 2015, the actress plans to return to the image of the Black Widow in the movie "Avengers 2: Age of Ultron". She is also supposed to voice the python Kaa in Jon Favreau's adaptation of The Jungle Book.
